Rotating Machinery Experience
CFdesign first introduced a rotating mesh capability in version 6.0 which was released in late 2003. Since then Michael Clapp has taken the lead role in introducing this to the European market. This has involved performing consultancy projects, working on validation cases and supporting customers who have issues with this capability. Much of this work was carried out in co-operation with Blue Ridge Numerics’ distribution partners. For example, Turkey probably now has one of the highest usages of these capabilities of anywhere in the region due to the interest of the local partner.
Some of the projects performed using CFdesign’s rotating machinery capabilities include: -
-
Validation of CFdesign for predicting performance of a screw centrifugal impeller pump.
-
-
Simulation of a Water Bypass pump.
-
-
Performance simulation of a single stage, axially split, centrifugal pump.
-
-
Verification flow simulation of a Vertical Turbine Line shaft Pump.
-
-
Power prediction simulation for water flow through a Francis turbine.
-
-
Flow Simulation through a small axial flow turbine.
-
-
Design Simulation of an axial flow water meter.
-
Validation of CFdesign for performance predictions on a dual impeller centrifugal pump.
-
-
Comparative design study of a High Pressure Fire Pump
-
-
Technique development for CFdesign simulation of unshrouded irrigation pumps.
-
-
Method development for wind turbine design calculations.
UpFront Engineering Simulation Limited (UESL) is becoming a specialist in rotating applications of CFdesign. Since its foundation in October 2007 the majority of projects undertaken have involved the use of CFdesign’s rotating region capability. These have varied from one off design comparisons using CFdesign to implementation projects, where CFdesign customers have required assistance in learning how to get the best use out of the software. Through this work UESL has gained a valuable insight into the various issues in pump design.
